You can swipe forward to access the next track, back to listen to the previous one, and up and down to control the volume. The headphones can be connected to two devices simultaneously, and will automatically stop playback when you take them off your head due to the built-in sensor. You can activate ambient mode by placing your palm on the right ear cup. This lets you hear the sounds around you without having to take off the headphones.

Other features that are useful include the possibility of pairing them with your voice assistant, Bluetooth low-energy, and support for high-resolution audio (via LDAC). The headphones come with a carrying case made of top quality fabric and an USB-C charging cable. The headphones are compatible with the majority of Android and iOS smartphones and computers running Windows and macOS. The battery longevity of the WH-1000XM5 is excellent. In our standard test, we were able to achieve 31 hours and 53 minutes when the ANC activated which is much better than Sony's advertised battery life of 30 hours.

The WH-1000XM5's mic performance on calls is exceptional and there's no distorted or static-y sounding background. Noise-canceling is also excellent, and these headphones are great for public transportation and the office.

The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 provides a significant improvement over its predecessor. It comes with a variety of new features and performance. The Bowers and Wilkins PX7 S2 comes with premium performance and features, including 24bit wireless streaming with active noise cancellation that is optimized, and clear voice calls on any compatible mobile or tablet. At 10.8 grams (or 307g), they're 2 ounces lighter than the Sony WH-1000XM5, and slightly smaller. It flashes green to show rapid charging and solid blue to indicate Bluetooth pairing.

The B&W app provides the same controls as the hardware onboard buttons - bass and treble adjustment and assigning action buttons wear detection, a cycle through ANC modes and much more. The app also displays an album cover and track title when you play music on your iPhone. However, the most popular features like music presets or a soundscapes feature are not available.

Sennheiser HD 800 S

The HD 800 S is the successor to the legendary headphones made by Sennheiser and is designed to meet highest expectations. Its technical construction is optimized to give an impressive detail resolution that encompasses all of the frequency spectrum, dynamic range, and stereo panorama. The Anker Soundcore Life Q20 are a good pair of headphones that will be a great choice for anyone who needs to kill some time or simply wants a low-cost set of noise cancelling headphones. They come with a simple pouch that will give them some protection when you put them into your bag, and their battery is capable of lasting multiple long haul flights. The ANC can effectively block out noisy seatmates and engine rumbles. However, their audio profile is a little warm and bass-heavy.

The Life Q20's controls are easy to navigate and well-marked. On the left earcup, you'll find buttons for powering up and pairing the headphones, as well as for turning off or on active noise cancellation. On the right earcup you'll find media playback controls, including a multi-function button which lets you turn on the voice assistant on your phone and switch on Anker's BassUp feature (more on this later).
